Welcome Class of 2016!

Welcome to your freshman year at Boston College. Now that classes have started and everyone is unpacked, it is time to consider one of the most exciting parts of your college experience, college athletics. After Calc discussion, bio lab, or an hour and twenty minute history lecture, there is nothing better than going out with your eight closest friends for a row on the Charles River.

But I've never rowed before...

Nothing to worry about. Only a quarter of our rowers have previous experience; the rest come from sports including baseball, track and cross country, soccer, football, basketball, lacrosse, hockey, wrestling, and karate. We will teach you all you need to know to become an elite rower.

How competitive is the team?

The Men's Crew Team is one of the most competitive teams on the club sports roster. The Varsity Eight finished top ten in the Collegiate Eight and top twenty in the Club eight amongst forty team fields in the Head of the Charles. In the winter, Senior Keane Johnson pulled 6:17 for a 2k on an erg, good for 65th out of hundreds of rowers at Crash 'B'. In the Spring, the Varsity was undefeated in cup races against WPI and URI and came in fourth at the San Diego Crew Classic. The crew also earned a spot in a grand final or won the small final at each regatta including New England's and ECAC Nationals. Not to be outdone, the first Novice Eight medaled at New England's and the second Novice Eight won the Knecht Cup and ECAC.

But I'm not very athletic?

Also not a problem, we are looking for coxswains. Coxswains are an integral part to a team as they steer the boat and act as a coach in the boat, responsible for keeping the rowers focused and in-time. Yes, you are even allowed to yell at the rowers, but don't yell too loudly.

Where do I learn more about it?

We will hold our first informational meeting in Higgins 310 at 7PM on September 10th and we will hold our first practice on September 15th at Community Rowing Inc.
